Medieval Era
(3238 BC - 1753 AD)
Mauryan Dynasty
3rd to 1st Century BC
The Mauryan Empire has been assessed to have ruled over the valley of Kashmir from 272- 232 BCE. Mauryan Empire rapidly spread throughout India since its inception by Chandragupta Maurya in 322 BCE in Magadha. The Kingdom’s capital was at Patliputra (modern day Patna). However, the massive spread of the empire was credited to King Ashok (268–232 BCE).
Lohara Dynasty
950 AD - 1339 AD
The Lohara dynasty were Hindu rulers of Kashmir from the Khasa tribe, in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, between 1003 and approximately 1320 CE. Didda, a daughter of the king of Lohara called Simharāja, had married the king of Kashmir, Kshemgupta, thus uniting the two areas.
Shah Mir Dynasty
1338 AD - 1586 AD
The dynasty was established by Shah Mir in 1339 CE, there are two theories regarding Shah Mir's origin. Historian A. Q. Rafiqi states that some Persian chronicles of Kashmir describe Shah Mir as a descendant of the rulers of Swat. He thinks it more likely that he was a descendant of Turkish or Persian immigrants to Swat, who had intermarried with local indigenous peoples.
